What is TPIN and how do I place an order using t-pin?

A TPIN (Transaction Personal Identification Number) is a 6-digit password used by CDSL (Central Depository Services Limited) customers to authorize the transfer of shares from their demat account. It serves as an alternative to the traditional Power of Attorney (PoA), providing a more secure and convenient way for traders to authorize brokers to execute share transactions on their behalf. The TPIN helps ensure that only authorized individuals can approve transfers, adding an extra layer of security to your account.
Why is Authorisation Needed?
Authorisation is required to facilitate the secure transfer of shares during the sale process. When you place a sell order, you need to ensure that the shares are transferred from your demat account to the buyer via your broker for the transaction to be completed. The TPIN acts as a safeguard to confirm that you are the one authorizing the transaction, preventing unauthorized access to your shares.
Here’s how you can use the TPIN to authorize the transfer of shares when placing a sell order:
Pre-Authorization: Set up authorization in advance to avoid any delays when placing a sell delivery order.
Open the Sahi app and log in.
Go to the Portfolio section.
In the top-right menu, select the Verify Holdings option.
If you already have a TPIN, click Verify, enter the OTP, and complete the authorization process.
If you don’t have a TPIN, click Generate New TPIN. You will receive an SMS with your new TPIN, which you can then enter on the CDSL page.
During Order Placement: If you haven’t set up pre-authorization, you will be prompted for eDIS verification while placing the sell order.
If you already have a TPIN, click Verify on the eDIS screen, enter the OTP, and complete the authorization.
If you don’t have a TPIN, click Generate New TPIN, and after receiving the SMS, enter the new TPIN on the CDSL page.
Note: TPIN authorization is valid for one day only.
